From getting your skin ready for the beach to achieving glam make-up looks, we’ll help you get holiday gorgeous with our top-to-toe beauty tips.

Before your holiday…

In order to look your best for your holiday, there are a number of things you can do before you go. These include exfoliating your skin, getting rid of unwanted hair and starting off your bronzed glow.

1. Exfoliate your skin

To get a good overall tan, you’ll need to exfoliate. It’ll help to leave your skin smoother and will get rid of

any dry patches. It’s also essential to do before you apply fake tan. Use an exfoliating body scrub and a face mask to buff and prep your skin.

Top tip – don’t forget to treat those rough areas too, particularly the heels of your feet as these tend to be much tougher. Use a pumice stone to tackle these areas – or treat yourself to a pedicure just before you go so you’re fully relaxed.

2. De-fuzz with hair removal

You’ll want to de-fuzz before you hit the beach. Get rid of any unwanted hair by waxing, shaving or using hair removal cream.

Top tip – if you’re applying fake tan before you go away, try to wax or shave the day before so you don’t get any tan blotches in your hair follicles.

3. Get that bronzed glow

If you haven’t caught the sun before your holiday, you might want to apply fake tan so you don’t look washed out. Make sure you’re fully moisturised and exfoliate before you do this so you don’t have any patches of dry skin. Fake tan products with natural oils or moisturisers in them will work best.

Top tip – if you find you end up with fake tan stains on your hands, use a small amount of olive oil and salt to scrub off the stain.

4. Make it manicure-perfect

Getting your nails in tip-top shape before you go away is another way to complete your beach look and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Opt for a vibrant nail polish to reflect your summery mood or a neutral colour for a more natural look.

Top tip – gel finish nail polishes are perfect as they’ll provide a long-lasting finish so you don’t have to keep topping up your polish on holiday.

During your holiday…

Now you look beautifully refreshed but it’s also important to keep on top of your beauty regime while you’re on holiday. Here are some simple tips to keep your skin, hair and face looking fantastic while you’re away.

1. Take care of your locks

Top tip – if you want lighter hair, rub a little bit of lemon juice through your hair. This is activated by the sun and helps to create natural highlights, offering gorgeous caramel tones for brunettes and lighter colours for blondes.

2. Create flawless make-up

There’s nothing worse than getting all hot and sweaty on holiday and finding your make-up is sliding off your face, so be prepared for the warmer temperatures when you complete your morning make-up routine.

After moisturising (an oil-free moisturiser is best), start with a primer as this will help to keep your make-up in place. Then comes foundation (again, oil-free is best here). Choose a shade darker than the one you use in winter and then mix them together to get the most natural look, gradually getting darker as you enhance your tan.

It goes without saying that waterproof mascara is a must, as are natural eye shadows and lipsticks to give you an effortless look. Don’t forget your brows too; try to get these in shape before your holiday and use an eyebrow pencil to define them.

3. Get your beauty sleep

We all know how important it is to get a good sleep and this is still true when we’re on holiday. Getting some valuable shut-eye will keep you looking fresher and help improve those under eye bags.

Top tip – if you’re out partying until the early hours and indulge in a few too many cocktails, use some cotton wool balls soaked in cold water to revive your eyes. Simply place them over closed eyes for 10 minutes!

4. Keep skin hydrated

Even though you’re using sun cream all day, don’t forget to keep on top of moisturising at night too. An aftersun lotion will soothe sun-exposed skin, keep your skin hydrated and prevent the dreaded peeling process.

If you do manage to miss some areas with your suncream and you’ve got some sore sunburn patches, there are a number of natural remedies you can try to soothe the burn. Try rubbing cold yoghurt on the area, leaving for ten minutes. Or, opt for aloe vera gel as this is a natural anti-inflammatory…one of our team members suggests putting it in the fridge before use for added cooling!
