Makes approx. 30 biscuits
Preheat the oven to 180°C/350 F/Gas Mark 4
Beat the butter until soft and then stir in the sugar. Add in the egg and vanilla and mix in well.
Add in the flour, salt and orange zest and using your hands mix until it comes together to a dough. Wrap the ball of dough in cling film and put in fridge for 30 minutes.
Then remove the dough from the fridge and on a floured surface roll it out to 1cm thick.
Cut out the shapes and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack and allow to completely cool.
In a bowl mix together 300g of the icing sugar and 5tbsp of water until it has the consistency of toothpaste. Add more water or icing sugar as needed to achieve this.
Spoon the icing on to each biscuit and using the back of the spoon spread it over the biscuit, leaving a small gap around the edges. Let these completely set before the next step.
Mix 100g of the icing sugar with 5tsp of water and add some red food colouring. Transfer to a piping bag with a small nozzle a.
Before it dries place in a bowl and cover in sprinkles. Shake of the excess sprinkles.Repeat using green colouring and sprinkles.
Finally using icing pens write in your ‘I’ve been nice’ message. Why not make some extra and leave out for Santa!
