Maude McEerie’s back again with another Halloween recipe for you to try. How about these dreadful delights, inspired by Frankenstein’s monster? These give a whole new meaning to “finger food”…
Over to Maude!
Ingredients
Makes approx. 25 biscuits
- 130g unsalted butter
- 130g icing sugar
- 350g plain flour
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 50g blanched almonds
- a few drops of green food colouring
- red and black icing pens (for decoration)
How to make…
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 170°C/325°F/gas mark 3.
Step 2. In a bowl, mix together the icing sugar, butter and vanilla extract. Stir in the egg.
Step 3. Add the flour, baking powder and salt and mix well until it comes together in a dough.
Step 4. Add a few drops of green food colouring and mix, until you have the desired shade. Be careful to add drop by drop – you don’t want it too green!! Wrap your dough in clingfilm and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Step 5. Remove the dough from the fridge. On a floured surface, begin to roll out the fingers, roughly 10cm long.
Step 6. Gently pinch the dough to create “knuckles”. Push an almond into the “tip” of each finger to make nails.
Step 7. Using a cocktail stick, make wrinkles at the knuckles of each finger. Place your fingers on a baking tray and bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes.
Step 8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Gently remove each almond nail, squeeze some red icing in the dent and replace the almond.
Step 9. Add some “scars” and “stitches” using a black icing pen.
And there you go!
