When refreshing your home there are plenty of small changes you can make that won’t break the bank but will help you liven up the old and create big impact. Without the need for an interior decorator and without splashing the cash, here are 8 great ways to update your home.

1. Add mirrors

A great way to elevate your living space is to add a mirror or two. Not only do they make your space brighter and roomier, they add a touch of glamour, and are relatively inexpensive. Simply choose the size and style for each room and get hanging.

2. Change the colour scheme

This is easier than it sounds. If your walls are of a fairly neutral shade or would look equally as great with a different complementing colour, all it takes is replacing tired cushions with some new ones in a contrasting colour, adding some fresh throws and, if you fancy it, replacing the rug to match (think swapping out yellow accessories for pink in a grey decorating scheme). These colour changes will instantly inject new life into your living space.

3. Update your pictures

Bring new life to your walls with brand new pictures. Pictures can fade, easily making your living space outdated, so why not display some new memories in your home? If you’ve grown tired of your frames, these can be inexpensively replaced too.

4. Rework your shelves

Tired of looking at the same ornaments? Less is more, so why not free up some space on your shelves? Take a few ornaments away and repurpose them in other parts of your home. This not only creates a sense of space, but can also turn an ordinary shelf into a stylish statement piece. Opt for some candles or vases full of personality to complete the transformation of any shelves or sideboards.

5. Create a feature wall

Create a feature wall with a new colour. Don’t be afraid to go bold, just make sure the colour matches your brand new cushions, throws and accessories. Painting or wallpapering is one of the cheapest ways you can update your interior, and if you’re only updating one wall, it can be done in a flash with a small tin of paint or a couple rolls of paper.

6. Brand new cups and cutlery

It’s very easy to get used to the same old mugs in the kitchen cupboard. Chips and stains can become unnoticeable…but not to guests! Why not refresh your kitchenware with new cups, cutlery and dinner sets for an instant refresh that won’t break the bank.

7. Paint your front door

When it comes to refreshing your home, it’s often easy to concentrate on the indoors and forget the exterior. Your front door counts a lot for first impressions, after all it’s the first thing you see when you come home and the first thing guests see when they come to visit.

A little bit of TLC with our outside wood paint will have any wooden door looking as good as new and protect it from the bashing it gets from the British weather! Go classic neutral or stand out from the neighbours with a bright pop of colour.

8. Tend to the front garden

We spend very little time in the front garden, so it’s understandable that it can get forgotten about. However, it’s amazing what a little gardening and extra flowers can do to brighten up your home. Whether you clean the paving slabs with a pressure washer, cut the grass or hang up some newly filled hanging baskets, little touches can go a long way.

So there you have it. We hope these 8 tips will give you the inspiration you need to update your home for the new year. Don’t be afraid to take away, as less can go a long way. And if you’re feeling daring, go bold with colour.
