Many of us will be out and about trick-or-treating with our little monsters this year, lurking in the shadows before jumping out to frighten family and neighbours! But with the nights drawing in, it’s important to think about safety as well as fun so your spooky shenanigans don’t turn into a real life nightmare.

We’ve put together a few quick tips to help you have a frightfully safe Halloween this year:

1. Stay well lit

It’s important to make sure you’re always visible while you’re trick-or-treating, especially if you’re around busy roads. Carrying a torch will alert drivers to your presence, but also double as a spooky under-the-chin lighting option for ghost stories. Reflective stickers are another great idea as they’ll light up in a car’s headlights, warning drivers that they need to watch out for your ghastly group.

2. Look for extra-safe costumes

When you’re shopping for costumes, be sure to look out for costumes that have been through a rigorous testing process and are flame-resistant. Although, even with all these safety checks in place, it’s a good idea to teach little ones to stay well away from candles and open flames. You can’t be too careful when it comes to fire.

And try to choose designs that are the right size for your child, to prevent them tripping on costumes that drag along the floor.

3. Opt for flameless lights

When it comes to Halloween, naked flames always pose a safety risk – with all the costumes and hairspray and floaty decorations it’s so easy to go from treat to trick in the blink of an eye. Keep kids and pets extra safe and check out our LED tealights. They’re a great alternative to putting a candle in a pumpkin!

And for those freakingly fantastic finishing touches, look no further than our unique twists on fairy lights. With pumpkin, bat and ghost designs available, these lights are perfect for lighting up your home to welcome trick-or-treaters and greet your gruesome guests.
