With the nights getting longer and the days getting cooler it’s time to start thinking about switching your duvet for a warmer option. Autumn is on it’s way and we’ve got plenty of advice to help you continue to have a restful night’s sleep.
How warm or cool a duvet will keep you can be determined by its tog rating. The higher the tog the warmer the duvet will keep you (as it traps more warm air) and likewise, the lower the tog, the cooler you’ll stay.
In winter you’re probably used to sleeping under a 13.5 or 15 tog duvet. As it gets warmer outside, it’s better to invest in a 4.5 tog; or if you share a bed and one of you is always hot and the other is always cold, meet in the middle with a 10.5 tog duvet.
Synthetic or hollow fibres are the most popular duvet fillings. Synthetic duvet fillings are perfect if you’re sensitive to natural fillings such as feather or down. They can also be washed easily and often have added properties such as anti-allergy.
For a more premium filling you should plump for hollow fibre. These fillings have a thread of fibre running through the middle of the duvet which traps air better, keeping the duvet warmer.
